THE SIDELINES : Higuera Has Kneecap Operation
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Teddy Higuera, who filed for free agency earlier this week, had a small bone chip removed from his right kneecap during an operation this morning at Sinai-Samaritan Medical Center.
The surgery was performed by Brewers team physician Paul Jacobs.
Higuera was bothered by injuries during the 1990 season and finished 11-10 with a 3.76 ERA in 27 starts.
Higuera, a 20-game winner in 1986, will be hospitalized overnight. He reportedly turned down a three-year, $9-million contract from the Brewers before filing for free agency. He made $2.125 million in 1990.
