BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : A Rarity: Stewart Put on Disabled List
Dave Stewart went on the disabled list Friday for the first time in his 11-year career, ending a streak of 166 starts for the Oakland Athletics. Stewart pulled a muscle in his left side while pitching Wednesday, and the Athletics decided to take no chances, putting him on the 15-day disabled list.
Stewart, trying for his fifth consecutive 20-win season, is 2-2 with a 5.58 earned-run average in seven starts this year. The move was made retroactive to Thursday, meaning he will miss a minimum of two starts. It’s uncertain whether Stewart will be ready to pitch when he is eligible to come off the disabled list May 24.
