SIMI VALLEY : Accused Embezzler Pleads Not Guilty
A woman accused of embezzling more than $10,000 from the Simi Valley High School Music Boosters Club has pleaded not guilty.
Jolane Goldberg, 50, of Simi Valley entered the plea this week in Ventura County Municipal Court. Judge Charles W. Campbell Jr. scheduled a preliminary hearing for Aug. 27 and allowed Goldberg to remain free on bail.
Goldberg, the club’s former treasurer, is accused of writing checks to herself on the club’s account. The alleged thefts, amounting to $10,560, occurred between November, 1988, and February, 1991, Simi Valley police investigators said.
The discrepancies were uncovered when a new treasurer ordered an audit, investigators said. The club is a private organization that raises funds for band uniforms and activities.
