Tomorrow night, the phrase “and the winner is . . .” will be followed by some of the names here. Like the stars in front of the cameras, these contenders behind the scenes--with their artistic vision, painstaking attention to detail and finely honed sense of style--can make or break a film. In the art direction category, production designers and set decorators created Hollywood in the ‘40s, the birth of Las Vegas, New York meets the Middle Ages, Never-Never Land and the splendor of the rural South.
