COLLEGE BASKETBALL / DAILY REPORT : WOMEN’S FINAL FOUR : At Least These Tar Heels Are Alive
Basketball is still being played on the North Carolina campus this week, but it’s the women’s team and not Dean Smith’s club that is close to a championship.
The Tar Heels (31-2) are making their first appearance in the women’s Final Four against Purdue on Saturday. The men’s team was upset by Boston College in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
“The guys had their chance and they blew it, and we are still in it and we’re not giving up this chance,” said Tonya Sampson, the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,106 points.
