Stanford volleyball player Matt Fuerbringer, a former standout at Estancia, was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Assn. All-American team. Fuerbringer is a freshman outside hitter for the Cardinal.

Brian Ralph, an All-South Coast League outfielder from Dana Hills, has committed to play for Harvard, his father, Ed, said.

Ralph had scholarship offers from Notre Dame and Santa Clara.

Bryan Dunagan, a sophomore pitcher from Fullerton College, signed a letter of intent to play at Pacific, Hornet Coach Nick Fuscardo said.

A right-hander, Dunagan is 2-4 with a 4.47 earned-run average in 46 1/3 innings.

Two local swimmers, Monica Huszcz of Irvine High and Ian Pyka of El Toro, will attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Irvine Novaquatics Coach David Salo announced.

Huszcz swims the 500 and 200 freestyle events. Pyka swims the breaststroke and individual medley.

Southern California College announced the signing of Mike Guevara, a former Santa Margarita basketball standout who played the last two seasons at Cardinal Stritch, an NAIA school in Milwaukee.

Guevara, a 6-foot point guard, was third in the county in assists in 1991, his senior year at Santa Margarita. Last year at Cardinal Stritch, he averaged 14 points and six assists.

Canyon’s Lance Eddy and Woodbridge’s Alan Dugard have been named coaches for the third North-South All-Star Softball game June 8 at Brea-Olinda High.

Eddy will direct the North and Dugard the South in the game, which will feature the county’s best seniors.
