Police released a new composite drawing Thursday of a man suspected of shooting and robbing automated teller machine technician Robert T. Walsh.

Police also released photos of Walsh and the 1993 Ford Escort in which his charred body was found April 16.

An autopsy found that Walsh, a 60-year-old former Marine and Fullerton police officer, died of a gunshot to the head. Police said a flammable liquid was used to set the car afire.

Police describe the suspect as white, in his late 40s or early 50s, 175 pounds, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with receding gray hair.

Lt. Timm Browne asked for help from anyone who might have seen either of the men or the car on Friday, April 14. Walsh was last seen alive at 2:45 p.m. that day after servicing an ATM at the Wells Fargo Bank at South Tustin Street and East Collins Avenue in Orange. The car was found the following Sunday at 11:15 a.m. in the 3500 block of East Chapman Avenue.

Police also asked people who made deposits at any of four ATMs Walsh serviced that day to check with their banks to make certain their deposits were not among the estimated $11,000 to $18,000 authorities now say was taken from Walsh’s car.

“We’re interested in talking to them if they saw anything unusual . . . while they were doing their banking--an altercation, shouting in the parking lot, anything,” Browne said.

The ATMs were at Albertson’s markets in Yorba Linda at Weir Canyon Road and Yorba Linda Boulevard and at Yorba Linda Boulevard and Rose Avenue; at a Wells Fargo Bank at Prospect Street and Chapman Avenue in Orange; and at the Wells Fargo Bank at which Walsh was last seen alive.

Browne said that Walsh could have been abducted at any of these locations or between the ATMs. Walsh was authorized to carry a gun but chose not to, family members said. He wore a bullet-resistant vest and carried a pager.

Walsh “could have been forced to open the ATMs while someone was with him, or they could have abducted him and taken deposits from his vehicle safe,” Browne said.

Walsh had worked for the Wells Fargo Armored Service Corp., which is not affiliated with Wells Fargo Bank, since last September. The company has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in the killing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Jorge DeSouza or Detective Mike Harper at (714) 744-7513.
