Lenny Dykstra, who has missed seven games because of a sore lower back, was put on the 15-day disabled list by the Philadelphia Phillies retroactive to June 4. Dykstra is bothered by spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spine.

Milwaukee Brewer right-hander Cal Eldred said he’ll decide this week whether to have season-ending surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right elbow. On Monday, Dr. Lewis Yocum, the Angels’ medical director, confirmed Brewer team physician Dennis Sullivan’s diagnosis of ligament damage, the extent of which can only be determined through surgery.

In an attempt to rebuild declining attendance, the San Diego Padres will admit children ages 14 and under free on Sundays for the rest of the season, the team announced.

The Chicago Cubs activated right-hander Anthony Young off the disabled list, the team said. Young had been on the disabled list since undergoing elbow surgery last Aug. 15. To make room on the roster, Willie Banks has been designated for assignment.

The Houston Astros put outfielder James Mouton on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right hamstring, the team said. To replace Mouton in the lineup, the Astros recalled outfielder Brian Hunter from triple-A Tucson.

One day after pitching the first seven innings of a shutout against the Chicago White Sox despite neck spasms, Steve Ontiveros of the Oakland Athletics was still in pain and wearing a neck brace. Ontiveros said he planned to see a chiropractor.

Right-hander Scott Kamieniecki, limited to 5 1/3 innings this year, agreed to a deal with the New York Yankees that guarantees him $1 million this season and gives him the chance to earn $3,065,000 over two years. Kamieniecki, 31, is 0-1 with an 8.44 ERA in two starts this season. He was disabled May 6 by a sprained right elbow and probably will be activated later this month.
