FILLMORE : Horse Sanctuary Fetes New Home

Share

Jolene’s Horse Rescue Sanctuary--a ranch for horses rescued from the slaughterhouse or abandoned by their owners--will celebrate its new Fillmore location this Saturday with a chili feast and live music.

The sanctuary, where 22 horses are currently cared for by volunteers, was forced to move unexpectedly this month after being evicted from its Chatsworth location because the landlord failed to pay the mortgage on the property.

The opening celebration of the new 17-acre ranch will include a raffle of Western clothing, jewelry, horse portraits and riding lessons. In addition, 10 rescued and rehabilitated horses will be available for sale. Since the sanctuary opened four years ago, it has placed more than 50 horses in new homes.

All proceeds for the open house will go to help cover the $7,000 cost of the move and the ongoing cost of caring for the horses, which averages about $4,500 a month.

A donation of $10 is requested to attend, with children under 12 admitted for free. Jolene’s Horse Rescue Sanctuary is located at 2492 Grand Ave. For more information, call (818) 709-5472 or (805) 524-1954.
