Countywide : 6 Seek Allen’s Seat if Recall Succeeds

Share

Four Republicans and two Democrats entered the race Thursday for the 67th District Assembly seat, which will be vacated if former Assembly Speaker Doris Allen is recalled Nov. 28.

Republicans Haydee V. Tillotson, Shirley Carey, Don MacAllister and Scott Baugh, along with Democrats Linda Moulton Patterson and Laurie Campbell, filed their candidacy papers by Thursday’s deadline. They will appear on the ballot as candidates for Allen’s seat alongside the recall ballot.

Voters will be asked to declare whether Allen, a Cypress Republican, should be recalled and, if so, who should take her place.

Backed by Democrats in the Legislature, Allen, a 13-year member of the Assembly, became the first female Speaker in state history in June, prompting bitter charges of betrayal from Republican colleagues. She resigned that post last week amid escalating criticism of her performance, saying she needed to concentrate on defeating the recall.

All but one of the candidates to replace Allen are from Huntington Beach. Moulton Patterson, a former Huntington Beach resident, recently moved to Fountain Valley.
