Ferragamo Sues May Over Gancini Trademark: May Department Stores Inc. is being sued by Salvatore Ferragamo Italia for allegedly violating Ferragamo’s Gancini trademark. The closely held maker of footwear, handbags and apparel said May’s Lord & Taylor and Hecht’s department store units are selling handbags with clasps identical to the Gancini design used in many Ferragamo products. An attorney for Florence, Italy-based Ferragamo said the U.S. department stores stopped carrying Ferragamo goods about two years ago, shortly before they started selling the disputed handbags. A spokesman for the St. Louis-based retailer, parent of Robinsons-May stores, said the company doesn’t comment on litigation.
