Boy, 16, Killed in Drive-By Shooting in Garden Grove
A teenage boy was killed in a drive-by shooting early Saturday as he and a friend stood at a pay phone at Bolsa Avenue and Ward Street, Garden Grove police said.
The youth, 16, who police had not identified Saturday, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 12:35 a.m. shooting.
He and a friend were standing at the phone when an older-model foreign car, possibly a Honda or Toyota, approached and the occupants verbally challenged them, police said.
As they started running away, the occupants of the vehicle began shooting at them, striking one. The victim’s friend was able to get away, police said.
The car was last seen driving north on Ward Street.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to call (714) 741-5704.
