Torrid Pace Put Team in Playoffs

Colorado, Calgary, Vancouver.

That’s the answer to the question, “Who are the only teams to beat the Mighty Ducks since the Kings’ 3-1 victory on Feb. 20?”

The Ducks are 11-3-7 since a loss they’ve called a wake-up call and a slap in the face.

“We’ve lost three games in 21,” Duck Coach Ron Wilson said. “If we go on a roll like that [in the playoffs] we’ll win the Stanley Cup.”

Except, of course, there are no ties in the playoffs.

Defenseman Bobby Dollas will decide this morning whether to play against the Kings tonight after only two days of practice since he recovered from chickenpox.

“I had fever for four or five days,” Dollas said. “I still don’t have my legs or my wind.”

The TV screens in the Duck dressing room the other day were showing a game tape. Shawn Antoski making a rag doll out of Craig Berube. . . . Shawn Antoski pummeling Doug Houda. . . . Shawn Antoski versus the world.

“He must have felt bad that we hadn’t seen him play all year,” goalie Guy Hebert said jokingly. “Some guys were questioning whether he ever actually played.”

Antoski--who insists the “highlight” tape was sent to him by a fan--is making progress toward returning from abdominal surgery. He has begun practicing with the team. It’s still unclear if he’ll be able to play in the playoffs.
