A 20-year-old Tustin resident was in custody Wednesday at Long Beach City Jail in connection with the fatal, gang-related shooting of a 17-year-old Long Beach resident, police said.

Jeffrey Gordon Selsor was booked on suspicion of murder in the death of Patrick Baquir, who was gunned down Sunday in the 1900 block of West Burnett Street, said Karen Kerr, spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department.

Selsor allegedly drove a friend to a Long Beach residence to see his girlfriend, said Det. Jorge Cisneros. Baquir, who belongs to a rival gang, was at the house when the suspect arrived, he said. An argument broke out and Selsor shot Baquir several times at close range, police said.

Baquir was transported to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, where he died the next day.

After two days of surveillance, gang enforcement officers arrested Selsor at his home in the 1600 block of Stoneglass in Tustin, Kerr said. Selsor was arrested on suspicion of cultivating 50 marijuana plants police found at his home, Det. Paul Arcala said.

Blanca Cabral, 47, the mother of a friend of Selsor, also was arrested after police searched her Cerritos home and found 69 marijuana plants, Arcala said.

“We were hoping to recover possible evidence related to this murder, and that’s when we stumbled across all the other stuff,” Arcala said.

Police also seized handguns, rifles and shotguns at both locations. Two of the guns had been reported stolen, but none of the recovered weapons were used in the shooting, Arcala said.

Selsor was held at Long Beach City Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $1 million bail. Cabral was there in lieu of $15,000 bail.
