So how do a bunch of former colonials celebrate independence from Great Britain? Play cricket. Jamaican, Bangladeshi and U.S. teams will compete next week at the Independence Cup at the Woodley Cricket Fields in Van Nuys. The Southern California Cricket Assn. hopes the event will persuade the International Cricket Council to hold the World Cup here in 2000. “It’s between us and Toronto,” said David Sentance, association spokesman. “It would be a major coup if we could do it.”
