Wounded Man Faces Charges in Standoff

Still healing from nine bullet wounds he sustained during an encounter with Oxnard police officers, 42-year-old Daniel Bravo now faces felony charges.

On Aug. 3, Bravo--holding a kitchen knife--was shot during a standoff with police officers in the front yard of his estranged wife’s home, authorities said.

On Wednesday, prosecutors announced that they would file charges against Bravo for “resisting arrest by means of force and violence, brandishing a deadly weapon at an officer, and making terrorist threats,” said Deputy Dist. Atty. Richard Simon.

Out on $20,000 bail, Bravo, a construction worker, last week filed a complaint against the city claiming that he was “unreasonably sprayed” with pepper spray and shot.

The incident began after officers were called to the home of Bravo’s estranged wife, Connie, who had recently obtained a restraining order against her husband.

After a long standoff with officers, in which he refused to drop the knife, Bravo was sprayed with pepper spray, authorities said. Officials said that, despite the potent spray, Bravo lunged at officers and they shot him.
