A man trying to escape police flipped his pickup truck after a short chase Wednesday, police said.

About 7:45 a.m., a caller reported two suspicious people asleep in a pickup in the 700 block of South Yana Drive, Sgt. Joe Vargas said. The truck was registered to Mark Edward Findlay, 22, of Orange, who was wanted on a felony parole-violation warrant, he said.

When officers knocked on the windows, the driver started the truck and drove off, nearly hitting one of the officers, Vargas said. Another officer fired once at the truck but missed, he said.

The truck headed north on Beach Boulevard and west on Orange Avenue, where it hit a curb, flipped on its side and skidded 25 feet, trapping the driver and his 16-year-old female passenger, police said. Neither was injured, police said.

The driver, identified as Findlay, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault on a police officer, felony evading, resisting arrest and the outstanding warrant, Vargas said. The girl was released to a relative, police said.
