Marionettes, Crafts Highlight Holidays

The city of San Fernando Recreation and Community Services Department will host its annual holiday activities this week, including an arts and crafts fair and a free performance by Bob Baker’s Marionettes.

“It’s kind of a tradition here in town. We’ve been doing the marionette show for a number of years now and the crafts workshops for about three years,” said recreation coordinator Nicole de la Cerda.

From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, kids and parents are invited to make their own holiday gifts at the arts and crafts fair.

The fair will consist of about 10 workshops whose volunteers will help residents fashion Christmas tree ornaments, stockings, animal figures and other crafts, organizers said.

The arts and crafts fair will be held in the gymnasium at Las Palmas Park, 505 S. Huntington St.

From 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, the San Fernando Lions Club will sponsor a live performance of Bob Baker’s Marionettes.

Santa Claus will be on hand for the event and has promised to pose for pictures at no charge, officials said.

The marionette show will be held at Recreation Park, 208 Park Ave.

While both events are free, San Fernando officials are asking for voluntary donations of new, unwrapped toys to be given to Santa Rosa Catholic Church for their gift program for needy children.
