Free Parking, Meters to Help Broxton Shops Lure Customers
Prompted by suggestions from business owners, city officials are preparing measures to improve customer parking on Broxton Avenue.
Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Feuer, whose district includes Westwood, is working with the city Department of Transportation to launch a one-hour-free parking program at the city-owned parking structure in the 1000 block of Broxton, Feuer deputy Madeline Biesty said.
The city will also install parking meters south of the structure on Broxton. Biesty said she hopes the new measures will be in place within a month.
Merchants welcomed the 366-space parking structure when it opened in November simultaneously with the completion of a street improvement project there.
But business owners said a free parking program and meters would help bring more customers to Broxton.
“If they’re running in to get a bite to eat, they don’t want to sit there and pay for parking,” said Wendy Shane of Shane’s Jewelry, which has been on Broxton nearly 30 years. “I’m really glad . . . [the city] looked at what’s going to help the situation.”
