Police are seeking help in identifying the driver in a hit-and-run accident that killed an 80-year-old woman as she walked home from a video store.

West Los Angeles resident Ruby Matsumoto was struck by a car at Nebraska and Purdue avenues about 2:10 p.m. on Jan. 3 and was left lying in the road with her rented videos scattered around her, said Det. Kirk Hunter of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division.

An ambulance responding to an anonymous 911 call from a cellular phone transported Matsumoto to UCLA Medical Center where she died, Hunter said.

“What we’re really looking for is the person who called 911,” Hunter said.

Hunter said the car that hit Matsumoto would have been traveling south on Purdue Avenue. A vehicle description was not obtained because witnesses have come forward, he said.

Police urge anyone who may have information about the incident to call (310) 202-4545.
