Long Beach State Takes Pounding From Texas
Sam Anderson drove in three runs, and Gerrit Simpson matched a career high with 12 strikeouts in his sixth complete game of the season to lead Texas over Long Beach State, 11-2, Friday in the first round of the NCAA baseball regional at Palo Alto.
Jeff Ontiveros homered for the Longhorns (35-24). Paul Macaluso homered for Long Beach State (35-22), which will move into the elimination round.
Stanford 4, Marist 3--Sam Fuld squeezed home the go-ahead run in the seventh to lead the Cardinal (43-14) over the Red Foxes (32-20-1) at Palo Alto.
Florida International 17, UC Santa Barbara 4--The Golden Panthers (41-18) posted two six-run innings to shut down the Gauchos (39-16) at South Bend, Ind.
Notre Dame 12, Wisconsin Milwaukee 4--Steve Stanley went five for five to lead the Irish (47-11-1) over the Panthers (39-17) at South Bend, Ind.
Seton Hall 7, South Alabama 2--Chris Carter’s three-run double in the second inning led the Pirates (33-21-1) over the Jaguars (44-18) at Clemson, S.C.
Clemson 4, William & Mary 1--Steve Reba gave up four hits and struck out eight to lead the host Tigers (39-20) over William & Mary (35-19).
Central Florida 13, Princeton 12--Jason Graham’s one-out single past a drawn-in infield in the 12th inning led the Golden Knights (50-12) over the Tigers (22-24) at Columbia, S.C.
South Carolina 16, Citadel 0--Kip Bouknight threw his fourth shutout of the season for the Gamecocks (45-17) against The Citadel (38-23) at Columbia, S.C.
Florida 10, Stetson 9--Jason Dill had four hits at Coral Gables, Fla., as the Gators (35-25) beat the Hatters (41-16).
Auburn 8, Jacksonville 7--Javon Moran’s bases-loaded single in the 10th inning led the Tigers (36-19) over the Dolphins (38-24) at Tallahassee, Fla.
Florida State 8, Bethune-Cookman 1--Blair Varnes scattered six hits to lead the Seminoles (44-17) over Bethune-Cookman (26-33) at Tallahassee, Fla.
Tennessee Tech 9, Wake Forest 7--Casey Benjamin hit a two-run homer in the ninth to lift the Golden Eagles (33-28) over the Demon Deacons (41-17) at Knoxville, Tenn.
Tennessee 2, Middle Tennessee St. 1--Wyatt Allen struck out 14 as the host Vols (42-17) beat the Blue Raiders (41-16).
Oklahoma St. 5, Mississippi 4--Luke Powell’s two-out RBI double in the 10th led the Cowboys (41-20) over the Rebels (38-22-1) at New Orleans.
Nebraska 16, Northern Iowa 6--Matt Hopper hit a grand slam to lift the Cornhuskers (46-14) past the Panthers (34-27) at Lincoln, Neb.
Rutgers 4, Brigham Young 3--Matt Wolski scored on an error in the ninth to lift the Scarlet Knights (41-15) past the Cougars (38-21) at Lincoln, Neb.
