Athletics Rally Late to Beat Red Sox, 8-6

Catcher Doug Mirabelli’s fielding error in the eighth inning allowed Erubiel Durazo to score the go-ahead run as the Oakland Athletics rallied to beat the Boston Red Sox, 8-6, Wednesday night at Fenway Park.

The Athletics, who trailed, 6-2, after four innings, scored four runs off Byung-Hyun Kim (5-4) in the eighth.

The Athletics, who won their fourth straight game, moved two games ahead of the Red Sox in the wild-card race and closed to three games behind Seattle in the West Division.

The Red Sox have lost nine of 13 games and dropped a season-high 7 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the East Division.

New York 8, Kansas City 7 -- The Yankees, who extended their winning streak to seven games, completed a three-game sweep and improved to 10-0 at Yankee Stadium against the Central Division.

The Royals have lost six of eight, and they are now tied for the division lead with the Chicago White Sox with a half-game lead over the Minnesota Twins.

Roger Clemens (12-7) got his 305th win, tying Eddie Plank for 18th place on the all-time list.

Minnesota 4, Cleveland 3 -- Torii Hunter scored for the Twins on a sacrifice fly that barely reached the outfield grass in the seventh inning at Cleveland.

Hunter and A.J. Pierzynski singled, and Dustan Mohr sacrificed. With the infield in, Cristian Guzman hit a popup to the shortstop side of second that was caught by second baseman John McDonald.

Hunter immediately broke for the plate, catching the second baseman by surprise and scoring on a headfirst slide.

Texas 6, Detroit 0 -- At Detroit, R.A. Dickey (8-5) pitched a six-hitter for his first major league shutout. It was the Rangers’ eighth win in a row and the eighth consecutive loss for the Tigers.

Alex Rodriguez took over the league lead in home runs with his 36th.

Baltimore 9, Tampa Bay 5 -- Damian Moss (1-1) earned his first American League victory, and Jay Gibbons homered and drove in four runs at Baltimore to help the Orioles end an eight-game losing streak.

Toronto 5, Seattle 2 -- At Toronto, Josh Towers (3-1) pitched his first complete game in more than two years, and Vernon Wells hit a two-run homer to give him 100 runs batted in for the second straight season.
