The MTA board unanimously approved a plan Thursday to build a housing and shopping complex in a public plaza at the MacArthur Park subway stop.

The board’s endorsement of the $40-million project by MacArthur Park LLC, a team of three developers, marks the agency’s latest effort to promote development along transit routes.

The group envisions about 200 apartments and 51,000 square feet of retail space.
