Council OKs $2.1 Million in Repairs to Sidewalks
The City Council agreed Friday to spend $2.1 million to fix 23 miles of sidewalks across Los Angeles.
Last week, council members had considered not repairing the sidewalks and instead using the money to help offset a $250-million projected shortfall in next year’s budget. But after an impassioned plea from Councilwoman Janice Hahn, they decided to repair the walkways after all.
“It’s not about sidewalks,” Hahn said. “It’s about people. It’s about the senior citizens who want to be able to walk safely on sidewalks, people in wheelchairs ... people with baby strollers.”
