Bettarun Fast Brings Streak to Santa Anita

Share

Bettarun Fast was perfect at Calder. Now we’ll find out how she fares at Santa Anita.

Unbeaten in three starts at the Miami track, the 2-year-old daughter of Kelly Kip will make her California debut in today’s $75,000 Anoakia Stakes.

Owned by Patricia and Stephen Fitzpatrick and trained by Vladimir Cerin, Bettarun Fast won her three races for trainer Kathleen O’Connell in Florida by a combined 13 lengths.

She broke her maiden against $50,000 claimers by three lengths in her debut on July 16, won an allowance race nearly a month later by 5 1/2 lengths, then took the Catcharisingstar by 4 1/2 lengths Sept. 3.

Her two most recent wins came on the turf.

With Martin Pedroza aboard, Bettarun Fast will be on the dirt again in the six-furlong Anoakia as she faces Private World, Make Mine Minnie, Dancin Olivia, Itty Bitty Pretty, Babe Hall, Naughtylittlehottie, Docalady and Mama Lula.

Among the other eight, five are coming off victories: Private World, Make Mine Minnie, Dancin Olivia, Babe Hall and Naughtylittlehottie.

Race of the day: Trainer Bobby Frankel and jockey John Velazquez will team with King’s Drama, one of 10 turf specialists scheduled to go 1 1/2 miles in the $2 million Canadian International today at Woodbine in Toronto.

All starters in the Grade 1 will carry 126 pounds. The probable favorite in the International is Electrocutionist, who has won six of seven for owner Earle Mack and trainer Valfredo Valiani.

The Woodbine card also includes the $1 million E.P. Taylor Stakes, a Grade 1 for fillies and mares at 1 1/4 miles on turf, and the $500,000 Neartic.

One for the road: Kiss Kiss Kiss had trouble in her comeback on Sept. 30 at Santa Anita and can make amends in today’s third at Golden Gate Fields. Frank Alvarado will ride the 4-year-old Vaudeville filly for owner Daniell O’Neill and trainer Steve Specht in the $32,000 allowance at six furlongs. Kiss Kiss Kiss has won two of four starts at Golden Gate.
