Saints and Sinners on Opening Weekend

Last Saturday’s article on the Saints claims there is no easy fix in New Orleans. But I think there is a very workable fix for owner Tom Benson: Move the team here permanently and call them the New Orleans Saints at Los Angeles.

Louisiana avoids the huge cost of fixing the Superdome, New Orleans keeps its team alive in name and in spirit, Los Angeles finally gets an NFL team, making L.A. and the NFL happy, and the team, by virtue of Katrina, becomes America’s team -- automatically the most popular team in the nation.

The NFL season kicked off last week, and the referees already seem to be in midseason bad form. Flags were flying all day, every play. Finally, I had to turn it off. The NFL is starting to resemble the NBA -- a penalty every play!

Note to refs: Let the players play the game. Fans do not pay to see you ruin the game with terrible calls.
