Update: Chivas USA is desperate for points because the playoffs are rapidly disappearing over the MLS horizon. The team is seven points shy of the eighth and final playoff spot with only 11 games remaining. Only DC United and the expansion Philadelphia Union have fewer victories. Chivas USA Coach Martin Vasquez’s squad was beaten, 2-1, by Dallas when the sides met in Carson in June. Dallas is in third place in the West, 10 points behind the Galaxy and six behind second-place Real Salt Lake, the defending MLS champion. Colombian midfielder David Ferreira, with six goals and seven assists, is the main threat for Coach Schellas Hyndman’s Dallas team. Chivas, meanwhile, will be without right back Mariano Trujillo, who was red-carded after a scuffle with the Seattle Sounders’ Leo Gonzalez at the end of last week’s 0-0 tie in Carson. Defender Jonathan Bornstein should make his team-record 115th appearance for Chivas.
