The death of a man found hanging in an Exposition Park neighborhood on Thursday morning has been ruled a suicide, based on a preliminary investigation, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers responding around 4:20 a.m. found a 55-year-old-Latino man hanging from a tree near 36th Street and Arlington Avenue, according to LAPD Officer William Cooper, a spokesperson for the department.

Initially reported as a suicide, officers from LAPD’s Southwest community station conducted an investigation to determine the nature of the death.

“There was no foul play” found, Cooper said. A preliminary investigation conducted by the county’s Medical Examiner-Coroner Department determined it was a suicide, Cooper said.

A full examination will be conducted by the coroner and could take several weeks to complete, he added.

The name of the man has not yet been released, according to the coroner.
