Freshman James Harden of Artesia (11-7) had 17 points, shooting five for five on three-pointers, and teammate Derek Glasser had 11 assists at Long Beach City College. South Gate was led by Lorenzo Mata with 23 points, including 21 in the second half, and Jose Sanchez added 20 points. Artesia sophomore J.P. Olukemi had a career-high 16 points.

Jamal Boykin had 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists and Josh Shipp added 18 points, five assists and four steals to lead No. 2 Fairfax (13-2). James Roberts had 16 points for Spring Valley Mount Miguel (14-5). The game was part of the Coaches Classic at Chula Vista Otay Ranch.

Gabriel Pruitt scored 17 points to lead Westchester to a convincing win over Portland (Ore.) Grant in a Holiday Invitational game at the University of Portland. The Comets led 45-29 after three quarters.

Michael Sawyer scored 28 points for host Locke (0-2 in league). Danny Williams had 25 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for Fremont (9-7, 2-0), which outscored Locke, 20-7, in the first quarter.

Vlad Paraschiv had 13 points for L.A. Marshall (7-8, 2-2). Luis Soriano had 17 points for visiting Belmont. L.A. Marshall’s center Ronnie Aguilar hit a jump shot, was fouled and made the free throw to put the Barristers up by four points. Soriano hit a three-pointer with 20 seconds remaining but neither team was able to score after that.

Abraham Venegas had a career-high 30 points, including seven three-pointers, and Jimmy Willis had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Wilson (7-5, 3-1). Kevin Landin scored 30 points for host Lincoln (2-5, 1-3), which trailed, 31-28, at halftime.

Thomas Frames had 34 points, including nine three-pointers, and three steals to lead visiting L.A. University (8-8, 1-1). Desmond Eaton added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats. Walter Thompson had 34 points to lead Venice (1-1).

Gabriel Pruitt had 26 points for host No. 1 Westchester (13-1, 2-0).

WEST VALLEY LEAGUE

Cleveland 69, Taft 49
Dozens of spectators were turned away Friday night, but those who made it into the sold-out Reseda Cleveland gym saw Nick Young score 31 points as the No. 12 Cavaliers knocked off No. 6 Woodland Hills Taft.

Cleveland (16-3, 2-1 in league play) used man-to-man pressure defense to avenge a 61-60 defeat to Taft (13-3, 2-1) two weeks ago. Jordan Farmar was a one-man team for the Toreadors, scoring 18 of their first 19 points and finishing with 33.Taft trailed by 15 points in the second quarter, then rallied to within one point, 37-36, with 4:29 left in the third quarter. Cleveland went on a 9-0 run, led by Young, who had five consecutive points.

Farmar received little help from his teammates. The first Taft player to score other than Farmar was Matt Cook with two minutes left before half.
