A 9-year-old boy was fighting for his life Tuesday morning after authorities say he was wounded during a drive-by shooting in Mid-City.

The boy was sitting in a vehicle in the 1900 block of South Corning Street at about 11 p.m. when a white car with an unknown number of people inside drove up and unleashed a barrage of gunfire, said Los Angeles Police Officer Gregory Baek.

The boy was listed in critical condition Tuesday morning.

A 31-year-old man who was also in the car with the boy was wounded multiple times in the incident, Baek said. His condition was not immediately known.

A woman also in the car was grazed in the leg but is expected to survive, CBS Los Angeles reported.

NBC4 reported up to three men may have been involved in the shooting. It was not immediately clear if the incident was gang related, police said.

There have been four homicides this year and 152 violent crimes in Mid-City in the last six months, according to the L.A. Times crime-mapping database.
