Man shot after pursuit by deputies in Paramount

A suspect was shot and wounded early Friday after a four-hour pursuit and standoff with sheriff's deputies ended in gunfire in Paramount, authorities said.

The shooting occurred at 3:03 a.m. in the 7400 block of Jackson Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

No deputies were injured but the suspect was "wounded and transported to a local hospital in unknown condition," the sheriff's department said. The suspect's handgun was recovered at the scene, where detectives were continuing their investigation, officials said.

The incident began four hours before the shooting, according to KTLA-TV, when the suspect led authorities on a chase that took them on the 91 and 710 freeways before moving to surface streets.

The suspect, who has not been identified, finally crashed into a tree but refused to get out of the vehicle for some time, KTLA reported.
