Body found on interstate in Colton deemed suicide

The body of a man who apparently jumped off a freeway connector onto Interstate 10 was found Tuesday afternoon in Colton, prompting authorities to halt westbound traffic, police said.

Police were called to the area near the I-10 and I-215 interchange shortly after 2 p.m. after the man’s body was discovered on the shoulder of the westbound I-10, according to a statement from Colton police.

After an initial investigation, authorities believe the man likely committed suicide because a white truck was found parked in the connector above where the body was found.

Police said the man was in his 30s, but have not released his identity.

The California Highway Patrol closed the westbound lanes of I-10 while investigators were working, then gradually began reopening lanes. By 6 p.m., all of the lanes had been reopened.
