Man sought in Apple Valley shooting that left 1 dead, 1 wounded

Law enforcement authorities in San Bernardino County on Thursday identified a 20-year-old man as a suspect in a shooting that left one man dead and a woman critically wounded.

Robert Jerome Pope is suspected of gunning down Ernie Sanders on Tuesday morning in Apple Valley, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene in 20000 block of Serrano Avenue. A woman was also wounded in the attack and was taken to a hospital, where she was listed in stable condition Thursday, authorities said. Her name was not released.

“Pope is believed to frequent the High Desert,” authorities said in a statement.

Detectives had not established a motive for the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Mike Walker or Sgt. Rick Bessinger at (909) 387-3589.
