Armed robber shoots, critically wounds Long Beach mini-mart clerk

A clerk at a Long Beach mini-mart was in critical condition after being shot during a robbery, police said Tuesday.

The shooting was reported around 7:50 p.m. Monday in the 1100 block of East 7th Street near Cerritos Avenue, according to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers discovered a store clerk had been shot in the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics took him to a hospital, where he was in critical condition.

His condition prompted the involvement of homicide investigators, who want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the shooting.

Police did not have a description of the armed robber, who fled with an unspecified amount of cash.
