Body found in Hollenbeck Park lake may be female transient
A body found Thursday morning in the lake at Hollenbeck Park in Boyle Heights appears to be that of a local female transient, authorities said.
Los Angeles police were called to East 4th Street and South Louis Street about 10:15 a.m. after a person walking on the path along the lake saw what appeared to be a person in the water, said LAPD Capt. Martin Baeza.
The woman, who was in her mid-30s, lived in an encampment in the park, Baeza said.
There were no visible signs of a struggle, and investigators have not ruled out a possible suicide or drug overdose. She was found partially clothed from the waistdown, and the rest of her clothing was discovered nearby, Baeza said.
A cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Authorities are attempting to locate the woman’s family.
