Boys’ basketball: Westchester, Santa Monica, Maranatha tournaments begin

Tournaments get under way on Monday at Santa Monica, Westchester, Pasadena Maranatha and Mission Viejo. The San Fernando Valley Invitational will take place at Crespi, Alemany, Kennedy and Granada Hills.

Top teams making their debut include Loyola and Chaminade in the Santa Monica tournament, El Camino Real, Gardena Serra, Windward and Bishop Montgomery in the Westchester tournament and No. 1 Mater Dei at Mission Viejo.

A team from Australia will get its first experience of Southern California basketball by playing the Monarchs.

At Maranatha, Chino Hills and point guard Lonzo Ball play Venice on Monday at 6:30 p.m. and Pasadena faces La Salle at 8 pm. Sylmar plays Leuzinger at 5 p.m. and Los Osos plays St. Anthony at 3:30 p.m.

At Santa Monica, Monday’s schedule includes Culver City vs. Brentwood, 5 p.m.; Loyola vs. Locke, 6:30 p.m. and Santa Monica vs. Palisades, 8 p.m. On Tuesday, it’s Palisades vs. Harvard-Westlake, 5 p.m.; Chaminade vs. Crossroads, 6:30 p.m. and Fairfax vs. Culver City, 8 p.m.

At Westchester, it’s Bishop Montgomery vs. Narbonne, 3 p.m.; Windward vs. Peninsula, 4:30 p.m.; El Camino Real vs. San Pedro, 6 p.m. and Taft vs. Santa Maria St. Joseph, 7:30 p.m.
