Football: St. Francis is another strong team from Mission League

Share

As if having Gardena Serra, West Hills Chaminade and Los Angeles Cathedral together didn’t make the Mission League strong enough in football this fall, beware of La Canada St. Francis.

With 15 starters back, the Golden Knights will certainly be able to play with the big three. They went 4-1 in the Rio Mesa tournament last weekend, but standout sophomore receiver Dylan Crawford suffered a broken jaw (yes, these passing tournaments get physical).

Coach Jim Bonds is has been more than pleased with the improvement of 6-foot-3 senior quarterback Ty Gangi, who was the backup to Jared Lebowitz last season. “I’m pretty excited what he’s doing this spring and summer,” Bonds said.

Junior tight end John Carroll (6-4, 220) shows all the signs of being a college prospect, and Crawford one day could be St. Francis’ version of former standout Dietrich Riley.
