Starting next season, there will be fewer playoff teams in Southern Section

Share

The Southern Section Council approved elimination of Bluebook Rule 3214.1 that allowed schools who did not earn a guaranteed playoff spot into the playoffs as long as they had a .500 or better record in every sport but football, basketball and wrestling.

By eliminating the rule, it will reduce the number of teams in the playoffs, save transportation costs and reduce wild-card games.

The rule change will take effect for the 2014-15 school year in the Southern Section and particularly effect the sports of baseball, softball, soccer and water polo.
