Baseball: Kennedy’s Nick Rodriguez is making summer impression
The summer baseball season is nearing a conclusion, and senior shortstop Nick Rodriguez of Granada Hills Kennedy just might earn himself a college offer.
Rodriguez, a starter since his freshman season, leads the Golden Cougars in hitting with an average above .370 and has been playing fabulously in the field. He’s drawing interest from UC Santa Barbara, UCLA and San Diego, among others. He has a 3.5 grade-point average.
Kennedy plays at El Camino Real at 5 p.m. on Thursday in a quarterfinal game of the VIBL playoffs. It’s shaping up to be a terrific matchup.
El Camino Real is expected to start on the mound unbeaten sophomore left-hander Jeremy Polon, who was a JV player last season. Kennedy will counter with junior Gilbert Hernandez, who got plenty of varsity experience last season pitching against City champion San Fernando.
