Boys’ basketball: Chino Hills is on a 15-game winning streak

Share

Sophomore point guard Lonzo Ball is all about winning, and he’s doing a great job leading Chino Hills (25-4), which has won 15 consecutive games since a Dec. 30 loss to Sierra Canyon.

Chino Hills plays host to Redondo on Tuesday night in a Southern Section Open Division semifinal game. The other semifinal matches North and host Santa Ana Mater Dei.

Chino Hills is playing as well as any team in California. The Huskies have been getting contributions from many people. Senior Bishop Mency can score from anywhere. Freshman LiAngelo Ball will make open shots. Junior center Nnamdi Okongwu keeps improving.

But Lonzo Ball, a UCLA commit, is the player orchestrating everything. He doesn’t care about how many points he scores. It’s all about winning, and to have a point guard like that means a lot.

Redondo, last season’s state Division II champion, has its own outstanding point guard in Ian Fox, setting up another terrific matchup. Last week, Ball went up against USC-bound Jordan McLaughlin of Etiwanda.
