Boys’ basketball: Tyler Dorsey scores 35 points in Maranatha victory

Tyler Dorsey has begun his senior year after transferring from St. John Bosco to Maranatha, and he showed Saturday he’s already comfortable in his new setting.

He scored 35 points to help Maranatha defeat Long Beach Jordan, 80-61, in an opening game of the Ron Massey Memorial Fall Hoops Classic at Jordan. Trevor Stanback added 18 points. Seth Guillory scored 27 points for Jordan.

Chino Hills received 30 points from LiAngelo Ball and 25 from Lonzo Ball in a 104-96 win over Cathedral. Milan Acquah, who was at Chino Hills last season, scored 28 points for Cathedral. Kobe Paras, who sat out last season after moving from the Philippines, had 24 points for Cathedral.

Compton defeated Bishop Gorman, 77-64, behind Robert Lewis’ 24 points. Rasean Scott added 18 points and Javonntie Jackson had 17. Chase Jeter led Bishop Gorman with 16 points.

Cantwell-Sacred Heart defeated Long Beach Poly, 49-46, in double overtime. Jacob Davidson scofed 18 points and Antonio Cortez made the three-pointer to win it for Cantwell.

The semifinals for Sunday have Chino Hills playing Compton at 11:20 a.m. and Maranatha facing Cantwell at 12:30 p.m. The championship game will be at 5:10 p.m.
