Golf: City Section championship is set for Wednesday

Watch out for the freshmen. That’s the scouting report for Wednesday’s City Section golf championship at Wilson Golf Course.

A number of freshmen could play prominent roles for the team and individual competition.

Palisades and Birmingham are top contenders for the team title, and each has a top freshman. For Palisades, it’s Ray Yang, who won the 6A League championship. For Birmingham, it’s Christian Lingamen and Jacob Merilo.

LACES also has a freshman who could challenge for individual honors in Matthew Giombetti.

But everyone has to beat the defending champion, junior Jisup Hwang of Van Nuys.

The first foursome to begin will be at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
