Rays put Pearce, Mahtook on DL
The Tampa Bay Rays put Steve Pearce and Mikie Mahtook on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday after they were injured in the team’s 7-4 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Monday night.
Pearce strained his right hamstring running to first base after hitting a fly ball in the ninth inning. Mahtook suffered a broken left hand when he was hit by a Josh Tomlin pitch in the second.
Pearce is hitting .322 with nine home runs and 25 runs batted in. He has played first base, second base and designated hitter.
Mahtook, who has played all three outfield spots, is batting .154 with three RBIs.
Indians’ Brantley has biceps tendinitis
Indians outfielder Michael Brantley was diagnosed with right biceps tendinitis and was given a cortisone shot.
Brantley has been on the DL.
