Share

If you haven’t made plans for Valentine’s Day or Presidents Day, it’s not too late to create a wine country or national park getaway -- without spending top dollar. Grab your laptop, check out these online hotel discounts at less than $200 a night, and get ready to go.

Go wine tasting: Use the historic Hotel La Rose at 308 Wilson St. in downtown Santa Rosa, Calif., as a base to visit wineries in the area, from Sonoma in the southeast or Healdsburg in the north. Travelzoo offers a $99-a-night deal that still has availability this weekend. The package comes with a $20 happy hour voucher and breakfast. If you can’t get away now, the deal is good until May. Go outdoors: National parks and forests are waiving entry fees this weekend, which saves up to $20 and offers endless opportunities to hike, bird-watch, bicycle and enjoy nature. Hotwire shows rooms (without hotel names revealed) near Joshua Tree National Park available this weekend for $72 a night at a 2½-star hotel and $196 a night at a 4-star hotel in the La Quinta-Indian Wells area south of the park.
