AT THE PLATE: Mike Trout singled twice and walked and is now batting .477 (21 for 44) with three homers, two triples, two doubles, 13 runs batted in and 15 runs. Roberto Baldoquin, the 20-year-old Cuban infielder who signed for $8 million in January, made his first appearance in a big league exhibition and lined a pinch-hit homer to left field in the eighth inning. “He has a nice approach to the ball and a real easy, fluid swing,” Manager Mike Scioscia said. “That ball jumped off his bat.” Former Angels slugger Mark Trumbo hit an RBI double in the second for Arizona.

ON THE MOUND: C.J. Wilson’s inability to pitch into the sixth inning will probably force the Angels to start the left-hander in the controlled environment of a minor league game next Wednesday. That will assure that the left-hander pitches at least six or seven innings in his last exhibition game. Closer Huston Street retired the side in order in the sixth inning, but setup man Joe Smith struggled in the seventh, giving up two runs and three hits, including Nick Buss’ run-scoring triple.

EXTRA BASES: Kole Calhoun, who suffered a bruised right triceps when he was hit by a pitch Thursday, sat out the game but should return Saturday or Sunday. … Third baseman David Freese (hyperextended left elbow) took batting practice Friday and should be ready to play Saturday. … Outfielder/first baseman Marc Krauss, out since Monday because of lower-back spasms, entered in the eighth inning and struck out in his only at-bat. … Drew Rucinski, in the running for a long-relief spot, threw 75 pitches in 5 1/3 innings of a minor league game.
