Baseball: Sherman Oaks Notre Dame hands Harvard-Westlake its first defeat

The Mission League is already looking like teams are going to take turns beating each other. On Friday, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame handed Harvard-Westlake its first defeat, 4-3, getting a critical two-run single from Michael Wilson. Wilson finished with two his and three RBI.

Junior left-hander Jamie Robertson pitched well in a starting role, and sophomore Hunter Greene got the save with a scoreless seventh. Harvard-Westlake (7-1, 1-1) hurt itself with several baserunning errors. Leo Kaplan had three hits and all three RBI for the Wolverines.

St. Francis 5, Chaminade 2: The Golden Knights won just one Mission League game last season but equaled that total on Friday. Andres Kim had two hits and threw 4 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run. Jonathan Tyler threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. In an earlier suspended game, Chaminade won, 8-4.

Alemany 6, Crespi 1: The Warriors (8-2, 2-0) moved into first place in the Mission League behind Ruben Cardenas, who had four hits, including three doubles. Brandon Lewis hit a two-run home run and Carter Yankie threw a complete game, striking out nine.

Village Christian 6, Maranatha 0: Chris Davidson struck out 10 and threw a two-hitter for the Crusaders.

Hart 6, Valencia 1: Jack Ralston and Sean Ward combined on a three-hitter. Jake Lewis hit a two-run home run and finished with four RBI in a Foothill League win.

Saugus 9, Canyon 0: Caden Maher hit a three-run home run during a nine-run seventh inning for the Centurions.

Bishop Amat 11, Cathedral 1: Sophomore Isaac Esqueda struck out nine and threw a no-hitter for the Lancers.

San Clemente 6, Trabuco Hills 1: The Tritons stayed unbeaten behind Andre Pallante, who threw the shutout.

California 6, Whittier 0: Daniel Alvarez struck out nine and walked none in handing Whittier its first defeat.

Chatsworth 3, Banning 0: Andrew Renteria and Sam Shaikin had two hits apiece and three pitchers combined for the shutout at USC.

Los Alamitos 4, Newport Harbor 0: The Griffins came away with a win in their Sunset League opener.

Foothill 6, Brea 0: Soren Yarnall threw the shutout. Dylan Doherty and Sebastian Lopez each had two hits.

Oaks Christian 5, Newbury Park 0: Sophomore Carson Rudd threw a three-hitter in a Marmonte League game. Riley Helland had a home run, double and four RBI. Adam Kerner added a home run.

Agoura 3, Westlake 1: Bryce Fehmel threw four shutout innings of relief for the Chargers. Brandon Shearer and Ben Baird each had two hits.

Thousand Oaks 4, Calabasas 3: Riley Jones had the walk-off hit in the eighth.

Camarillo 7, Royal 5: The Scorpions knocked off Royal and ace pitcher Kurt Johnson.

Simi Valley 7, Oak Park 2: Josh Hammond struck out five and walked none in a complete game. Timothy Walgren had three hits and Cal Hodgins added two hits and two RBI.

Ayala 4, Glendora 3: Daniel Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to give Ayala the Palomares League win. Josh Bozoian hit a two-run home run.

El Toro 7, Aliso Niguel 5: A five-run seventh inning sparked El Toro’s victory. Jake Smith had two hits and two RBI. Andy Krear added two hits.

El Dorado 4, Anaheim Canyon 2: Nick Sprengel struck out nine for El Dorado.

Dana Hills 2, Tesoro 0: Marrick Crouse threw a one-hitter, striking out nine, and he also had two hits at the plate for Dana Hills (9-1).

Great Oak 5, Murrieta Mesa 3: Mitch Hayes threw 4 2/3 innings to help hand Murrieta Mesa its first defeat. He also had a home run. Brandon Stewart added two hits.

Chaparral 4, Vista Murrieta 2: Marc Sauceda had three hits to lead Chaparral.

Sierra Canyon 6, Paraclete 0: Seth Stone threw a three-hitter and Jake Fried went three for three with five RBI. Stone added three hits. Sierra Canyon is 7-1 and 2-0 in the Gold Coast League.

Sun Valley Poly 4, Arleta 0: Michael Galindo thew the shutout against his former teammates in an East Valley League game. He struck out five and gave up three hits.

Chavez 5, North Hollywood 4: Chavez evened its East Valley League record at 1-1.

Verdugo Hills 7, Taft 2: The Dons scored four runs in the first and never looked back. Marco Quintanar threw the complete game. Grant Mona and Marco Toscano each had two hits.

Beckman 5, Northview 4: Connor Fidone had two hits and two RBI.

Damien 3, Los Osos 1: Jonathan Olsen struck out 10 in 5 2/3 innings.

El Modena 2, Esperanza 1: Frankie Islas had the walk-off single in the seventh. Brett Conine struck out nine and walked none.

Murrieta Valley 13, Temecula Valley 1: Murrieta Valley improved to 6-0.

Campbell Hall 7, Brentwood 6: The Vikings won in eight innings. Sloan Fischer went three for three. Charles Kwong added three hits.

Ventura 7, Santa Barbara 3: The Cougars scored five runs in the first three innings for a Channel League win. Trevor Moropoulos had a two-run home run for Santa Barbara.
