Watch Yeah Yeah Yeahs rock Empire State Building in new video

Pop & Hiss has seen Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs do a lot of things, including spewing beer on her audience and making a miner’s headlamp look good.

What we haven’t seen the New York frontwoman do is play a concert on top of one of New York City’s most famous skyscrapers, the Empire State Building.

But that’s just what she does in the new music video for “Despair,” a lovely post-punk ballad from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ 2013 album “Mosquito.” (According to a news release, it’s the first time any band has filmed a video there.)

In the statement, Karen O said the “Despair” shoot, which took place from 3 a.m. to sunrise, served as her first trip to the peak of the iconic landmark.

“I gotta say I had a ‘the impossible is possible’ moment up there with [guitarist] Nick [Zinner] and [drummer] Brian [Chase],” the singer said. “If someone would have sat us down at the Mars Bar years back and told us that we’d be performing our music on top of the Empire State Building one day, we probably would have thought that’s the stuff that dreams are made of, not us, no way.”
