'Bling Ring' cosmetics: Glorifying crime or just another tie-in?

The hype over Sofia Coppola's upcoming film "The Bling Ring" is coming on strong.

The latest to surface in my inbox is a news release from SmashBox cosmetics announcing the launch of its Bling Ring makeup kit -- lipstick, lip plumper, mascara, eye liner, primer and a faux croc clutch. And that's not all: "To give fans a glimpse of the celeb fantasy that 'The Bling Ring' explores," Smashbox is giving away a trip for two to the film's premiere and afterparty June 4 in L.A.  (The...

Rebecca Hall loves designer labels. While promoting her new film "Iron Man 3,"  Hall showed off her expensive tastes on the red carpet.

"Shopping is a bit of a relaxing hobby for me, which is sometimes troubling for the bank balance," Hall told Vogue UK. The British actress has professed her love on numerous occasions for the British brand Mulberry and has been seen sitting front row at the label's shows.

Hall doesn't experiment much with color, but she takes fit and texture to the extreme. For "Iron Man 3's" L.A. premiere, she donned a sheer black, embellished Prada dress with a zipper up...

Fall 2013 creations by Paris-based jewelry designer Aurelie Bidermann.

Aurelie Bidermann brings fall jewelry collection to L.A.

Paris-based jewelry designer Aurelie Bidermann is in L.A. this week showing her fall 2013 collection. I stopped by her room at the Sunset Tower hotel to take a look.

While her spring collection was all about Southern California, her fall collection nods to some of her other favorite places to travel, including Marrakesh and the South of France.

In Marrakesh, the Majorelle Garden has inspired everyone from Matisse to Yves Saint Laurent, and now Bidermann, who created a gold collar and ring with twisted vines and flowers evoking a secret garden. In the South of France, she not only took...

Virgin Atlantic Airways has tapped fashion designer Vivienne Westwood to redesign its uniforms the airline announced Thursday.

The partnership between the two British brands will result in newly designed -- and eco-friendly -- uniforms for about 7,500 employees, including pilots, cabin crew and ground crew.

According to the announcement, Westwood's goal with the redesign is "a futuristic look, which references her enduring interest in '40s French couture cutting techniques as well as the Savile Row tailoring heritage."

For the men of the cabin crew that will mean burgundy wool three-piece...

Baz Luhrmann, director/producer/co-writer of 'The Great Gatsby' and Catherine Martin, Academy Award-winning costume and production designer, at the "Gatsby" cocktail party and costume exhibit.

Prada, Baz Luhrmann fete 'Great Gatsby' costumes on starry night

Director/producer/writer Baz Luhrmann must be pretty proud of his latest offering, "The Great Gatsby," due out May 10. At least it looked that way Tuesday night in New York at Prada's cocktail reception kicking off the SoHo store's exhibit of the movie's costumes, designed by Luhrmann's wife, Oscar-winning costume designer Catherine Martin, in collaboration with fashion designer Miuccia Prada. One might say he embodied the phrase "busting his buttons" (as seen here). Some of the movie's stars -- Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire and Isla Fisher -- attended, as did Katy Perry, Florence Welch and...

Sofia Vergara is featured in Cosmopolitan's June issue.

Why 'Modern Family's' Sofia Vergara won't wear a backless gown

Sofia Vergara is Cosmo's June cover girl, and inside she talks about her success on "Modern Family," setting a date with her fiance, Nick Loeb, her thoughts about whether she'll have another child and, on a fashion note, why she won't wear backless gowns: her bra size is 32F, she says, and she needs more support than would be possible with a backless dress. (I don't remember the last time a celebrity talked about her bra size.) The issue is to be on newsstands May 7. [Cosmopolitan]

"Downton Abbey" plans to launch its own consumer brand in 2013, the show's executive producer told CNBC. "We'll...

Dutch have a new queen of fashion, Maxima

On Tuesday, the Dutch celebrated the coronation of a new king and queen of the Netherlands, King Willem-Alexander and his wife, Queen Maxima.

With her fashion choices for the events in Amsterdam leading up to the coronation, which included the signing of the abdication of Willem's mother, Queen Beatrix, earlier in the day, and a state dinner on Monday night, the statuesque blond royal Maxima, 41, proved what many in Europe already know: She is a fashion force to be reckoned with on the world stage.

A native of Argentina who worked as an investment banker in New York City before meeting Willem,...

The Antonio Berardi dress worn by Gwyneth Paltrow at last week's premiere of "Iron Man 3" got a lot of attention.

Gwyneth Paltrow's stylist defends sheer 'Iron Man' premiere gown

The gown that Gwyneth Paltrow wore to the world premiere of "Iron Man 3" last week in L.A. has gotten a lot of buzz, mostly negative. The Antonio Berardi dress is boat-necked with bell sleeves, but it was the skirt that got all the attention, with sheer panels revealing the sides of Paltrow's body from the top of her hip to her ankle. Now the actress' stylist Elizabeth Saltzman defends the choice to Us Weekly, calling the dress "elegant," and saying it showed spirit -- as well as the fruits of Paltrow's labors at the gym. Brit Week event honors fashion designer Pam Hogg

Opera, fashion and art came together Saturday night when Genlux magazine fashion editor, filmmaker and photographer Amanda Eliasch threw a Brit Week bash at her West Hollywood hillside home above the Sunset Strip.

The colorful poolside party for fellow creatives from across the pond was held in an eclectic setting, with a panoramic view of Los Angeles to the south, a hot pink piano due north and a burgundy crocodile, stirrup-dangling bench near the southeast outdoor bar that could've ambled out of "50 Shades of Grey."

Live vocal performances came courtesy of Lisa Zane (sister of actor Billy...
