Emmys 2012: ‘Modern Family’s’ Ariel Winter wears Katharine Kidd gown

One of the reasons why we love the Emmys red carpet is that it can be a opportunity for lesser-known designers to make an impact. Case in point: L.A. designer Katharine Kidd, who launched her business in 2010 and recently opened her first boutique in Brentwood. She designed a custom gown in a muted floral pattern for the 14-year-old “Modern Family” star Ariel Winter. Winter was criticized at last year’s Emmys for wearing a cleavage-baring powder pink gown. Well, this gown should put the age-appropriate question to rest. The racer back and the high-low hem are fun details,and keep the dress from being too serious for the young star, even with the major train. She looks like a princess, but not one who is being swallowed by a dress.
