The SAG Awards fashion: Verdant green proved to be the standout color trend

Share

Despite what you might have heard from a certain Kermit the Frog song, it’s pretty easy being green – at least that’s the takeaway from the 2016 SAG Awards red carpet, where variations on the verdant were the standout color trend of the evening.

On a night when fashions on the red carpet were overwhelmingly muted, verdant green proved to be the standout color trend at the 2016 SAG Awards.

Among the goddesses in green were nominee Marisa Tomei in a long-sleeve silk gown with a plunging neckline from Zuhair Murad’s fall 2015 couture collection. Nominee Kate Winslet wore a custom Giorgio Armani teal silk cady gown with a deep V-neck and satin detailing. Eva Longoria was in a beaded mesh, body-baring Julien Macdonald dress with deep decolletage, and Julianne Moore arrived in a glittery green Givenchy couture gown.

Carol Burnett, who received a life achievement award at Saturday night’s ceremony, managed to be on trend and pay homage to her longtime collaborator at the same time, arriving in an emerald green evening suit designed by Bob Mackie. He designed thousands of costumes for the actress during the run of “The Carol Burnett Show,” including the hilarious “curtain-rod dress” from the show’s memorable “Gone With the Wind” parody sketch (which also happened to be green, come to think of it).

There were a couple of other eye-catching colors in the mix, including a super-bright adjust-your-TV-set pink Vera Wang gown on Sofia Vergara, and a sunshine yellow number on Sola Bamis that made up for the overcast evening all by itself.

Bamis’ gown was also on point with another of the evening’s notable tends: bows, ties and straps. Her behind-the back version was so large that it seemed to hover behind her like angel wings.

Lori Petty turned out in a pink crop-topped pantsuit with generous legs and multiple hanging straps, and Brie Larson made a statuesque statement in a pale blue, draped-silk cady gown with a thigh-high slit and Swarovski knot embellishments.
